The History of Lights For Learning

Our travels to Kenya began in the year 2000. We took our annual holiday and soon became lost in the energy of the African continent. One young man in particular took our attention and we discovered that even though he was on a very low income, he was putting his two children through education as well as supporting his extended family at home. We decided that we would do our best to help him by sponsoring his children, and this was the start of our involvement.

On our next couple of visits we were invited to meet the family in the village and to visit the school where the children were being educated. Only one of the classrooms had desks, and this was used by the oldest of the scholars, who were preparing for, and sitting examinations. On our return to England we set about raising some money to try and purchase desks for the other classrooms. We succeeded in buying 36 for one classroom and 38 for a second one.
